Proposal 8
According to the third website that we were directed to on proposal 8, Proposal 8 is defined as eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry. It changes the California constitutional amendment of same sex couples to marry in California and it provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. After viewing and listening to the arguments on proposal 8, I found it very interesting to find that it was passed. The arguments were very good in that they brought up the issues of discrimination and respecting of their lifestyle. The video was interesting as it brought up the points that Dan and Michael are a happy couple just like Jan and Tom. Dan and Michael should be treated just as equally as everyone else. They have the same legal rights as anyone else. I found this to be interesting because I am at the in between state of not knowing if I would vote yes or no. This video helped me to see the side of same-sex marriage. It emphazises that we should respect others life-style choice and I think that this is true and important to think about. The article on voting no was also very interesting in how it argues that those who say yes to proposal 8 are saying "yes to bigotry, yes to discrimination, and yes to second-class status for same-sex couples." I found this to be interesting and it emphasizes the struggle for rights and freedom. I can agree on many of these arguments and I do not know which side I would choose.
